This summer, the BARBRI SQE Prep Mentoring Scheme ran for a second consecutive year, with a 50% increase in mentors and mentees.
Student Ivett Papista shares how BARBRI’s mentoring scheme and Employability Support helped her find clarity, build confidence, and fast-track her legal journey:

Listen before advising: Your mentee may need space to explore ideas out loud before looking for guidance.
Share, don’t prescribe: Offer experiences and insights rather than telling them exactly what to do.
Set clear expectations: Agree how often you will meet, what you will cover, and what your role is (and is not).
Encourage growth: Help your mentee stretch their skills and confidence, but don’t take over.
Give honest, kind feedback: Constructive feedback, delivered with care, is often what mentees value most.

Be proactive: Take responsibility for setting the agenda and following up after meetings.
